For the third consecutive year, Hartmann Studios was tapped to deliver an unforgettable year-end party for Yahoo. So we arranged for a memorable excursion, “Off to Oz.”
We transformed San Francisco’s Pier 48 into a wonderful world for 4,123 guests. To maximize space, our production team created "yellow brick road" carpeting, which guided attendees around and through the festivities. Highlights included one very Dark Forest, illuminated by social media posts (#noplacelikehere), a life-sized field of poppies around plush seating areas and one spooky witch’s castle.
A centerpiece of the party was a Kansas-style twister. Hartmann Studios constructed the man-made disaster by installing a large circular truss to the ceiling and attaching oversized barn doors, wheel barrows, hay bales, and a fake cow underneath. Rotating the fixture combined with special strobe lighting and a custom Oz storm soundtrack produced the desired effect.
The final stop for visitors was Emerald City, where Hartmann Studios staged a concert venue. Performances by cover band "Purple Ones," and funk diva, Janelle Monae, were followed by crowd-rocking sounds, courtesy of DJ MICK.
CEO Marissa Mayer mingled with guests, posed for selfies and graciously thanked all partygoers for their ongoing dedication to the world’s largest startup.
